The Dirty Truth About Paraffin
Why We Use Soy Wax (And Never Paraffin)
Every DANI Naturals candle is hand-filled in Bend, Oregon with 100% non-GMO soy wax, an organic cotton wick, and custom essential oil blends.
We never use paraffin a petroleum-derived wax that can release benzene, toluene, and soot when burned.
Soy wax is plant-based, biodegradable, burns cleaner, and lasts up to 50% longer.
What Is Paraffin Wax
Paraffin is a wax derived from petroleum, specifically from the heavy residues left after crude oil is refined into fuels.
It is the cheapest candle wax on the market, which is why it’s widely used in mass-produced candles.
This is also why many conventional candles:
- Smell slightly chemical
- Produce black soot
- Leave residue on jars, walls, and ceiling
Why DANI Naturals Doesn’t Use Paraffin
Burning paraffin is essentially burning a petroleum product indoors.
Studies have shown that paraffin candles can release volatile organic compounds such as benzene and toluene, which are classified as hazardous air pollutants. Paraffin also produces fine particulate soot that can circulate in indoor air.
A candle should enhance your environment, not compromise it.
Why We Choose Soy Wax
Soy wax is made from soybean oil, a renewable and plant-based resource.
Compared to paraffin, soy wax:
- Burns cleaner with minimal soot
- Burns longer due to a lower melt point
- Holds scent better at lower temperatures
- Cleans easily with soap and water
Is biodegradable and renewable

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Are DANI candles non-toxic?
Yes. They're made with 100% non-GMO soy wax, organic cotton wicks, and custom essential oil blends. No paraffin, no artificial fragrances, no colors or dyes.
Where are DANI candles made?
Every DANI candle is hand-filled in Bend, Oregon.
Is soy wax really better for indoor air quality?
Yes. Soy wax doesn't produce the petroleum-derived combustion byproducts (benzene, toluene, heavy soot) that paraffin does. For the cleanest burn, also keep wicks trimmed and avoid drafts.
Are DANI candles vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes. Plant-based wax, no animal byproducts, never tested on animals — and that goes for our entire product range, not just candles.
Why do DANI candles last longer?
Soy wax has a lower melt point than paraffin, so it burns more slowly and evenly — giving you up to 50% more burn time than a paraffin candle of the same size.
Why essential oils instead of artificial fragrance?
Essential oils are distilled directly from plants. We build every DANI scent around custom essential oil blends — no artificial fragrances, no phthalate-laden perfume oils.
